This was my second
international race on my way back to fitness. My
first race was 2 weeks ago in Austria and it was a
good start coming 5th.
The trip down was quite eventful, my sat nav took me
to a farm instead of my hotel! an hour later i found
the hotel! on the motorway, the other side of the
farm!
The race started in a narrow canal which made for a
very physical swim, not too many punches, but lots
of people swimming over my back, and I'm not the
kind of person who enjoys men on my back! The swim
went well and the bike was one of the hardest ride's
I've done, not because it was really hilly, but the
pace was just on for 40k, quite technical and lots
of cobbles with a good hill on every lap. I thought
I'd never be able to run after such a hard ride.
When I got to the run, my legs felt good and
straight away i took the lead, but as i haven't been
racing so much i though this may be a bit silly and
that may be i was going too hard too early so waited
for the others. I ran in a pack then from 2k until
9k, I lost contact at around that point and came
home in 3rd but only 10 seconds behind Andrey
Glushenko who won. We actually ran really well, my
run split was 31:50 which for me at the moment is
very good, and great to be back on the podium in
international racing.
Things are moving in the right direction which is
great and on to Salford World Cup now in 2 weeks!
